Family Selection and Support

Family Selection

“Having this house built for us is a beautiful blessing for my kids and I. It was always a dream of my late husband and I to have a safe and stable home for our 4 children. This home has exceeded our expectations beyond what we had dreamed of. Freddie will always be with us here in spirit, in the very bones of this house. From the moment work began on our house, we have been calling it our forever home. We are very honored to have had so many people push and strive to get us to this moment. We will always treasure this forever home and keep Freddie’s memory alive with it.”
– Betsy Ross

Volunteers who serve on the Family Selection Committee will:

  • Interview Applicants

Bi-lingual volunteers are needed help when translation is required.
The committee meets irregularly as needed to consider new applications.

Family Support

Family Mentor volunteers work one-on-one with prospective or existing Habitat partner families:

  • Skills for successful home-ownership
  • Assist through the building process
  • Help keep track of partnership requirements
  • May serve as a friend, role model, tutor and more for the children of Habitat homeowners ages 5 through 18

Mentors are expected to make a one year commitment to the program and to schedule consistent visits with their partner family. Mentors will be required to fill out an application form, provide three references, undergo a criminal background check, and participate in a personal interview.
